Local Food

Local food is important for so many reasons; notably it:

  • supports local producers, suppliers, retailers and purveyors, and so helps to boost the local economy;
  • helps strengthen local communities by developing local resilience;
  • reduces the impact on the environment by minimising food miles;
  • helps develop an appreciation of local history, landscape and culture – e.g., by exploring local varieties of foods such as apples or potatoes!

A good place to start thinking about this is the Sustainable Food Trust.
